BULLDOGS BITE WOLVES WITH 5-4 WIN

Chicago, Illinois – The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Chicago Wolves 5-4 on Saturday evening. Sergei Kostitsyn recorded two goals and an assist in the win.

Chicago, Illinois - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Chicago Wolves 5-4 on Saturday evening. Sergei Kostitsyn recorded two goals and an assist in the win.  

Chicago opened the scoring at 4:10 of the opening stanza while on the power play. Spencer Machacek fired a shot towards the net. The puck was grabbed by Andrew Kozek, who jammed the puck past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 and 10:47. Tom Pyatt chipped the puck ahead to Mathieu Darche, who fed a pass to Brock Trotter. Trotter skated in on Chicago starting goaltender Drew MacIntyre before using a backhand-to-forehand move and depositing the puck in the back of the net. The 'Dogs took a 2-1 lead at 16:09 of the first period. Kostitsyn grabbed a loose puck at the side of the net and proceeded to send a shot over the shoulder of MacIntyre. Mike Glumac and Marc-Andre Bergeron earned assists on the goal.

Kostitsyn added his second goal of the game at 2:22 of the second stanza. Ryan Russell fed a pass to Kostitsyn, who was positioned in front of the Chicago net. Kostitsyn fired a shot that was saved by MacIntyre but the goaltender could not contain the rebound allowing Kostitsyn to grab the puck and send it into the back of the net. Ben Maxwell gave the 'Dogs a 4-1 lead at 3:50. MacIntyre made a diving save on a Kostitsyn shot that put the goaltender out of position. Maxwell grabbed the loose puck and shot it into the open net for the goal.

The Wolves cut the lead in half at 6:10 of the middle frame while on the power play. Kozek added his second goal of the game when he received the puck while positioned in front of Desjardins before firing a shot past the goaltender. Joey Crabb made the game 4-3 with a shorthanded tally at 15:53. Crabb broke in alone on Desjardins before snapping a shot that bounced off the cross bar and past Desjardins.

Hamilton regained its two-goal lead at 16:29 of the second period.  Ryan Russell ripped a shot from the top of the faceoff circle that sailed through MacIntyre's legs. J.T. Wyman and P.K. Subban earned assists on the goal.

Chicago scored at 15:05 of the final frame. Matt Anderson grabbed a loose puck at the side of the net before rifling a shot past the glove of Desjardins to make the game 5-4.  

The Bulldogs return home for back-to-back meetings with the Manitoba Moose on Monday, October 19th and Tuesday, October 20th at Copps Coliseum.
