BULLDOGS RELEASE 2009-2010 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE

HAMILTON, ON – Hamilton Bulldogs President and Governor Glenn Stanford announced today the team’s 80-game 2009-2010 regular season schedule.  The Bulldogs will open their 14th American Hockey League campaign at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, October 4th versus the Marlies before they return to Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario for their 2009-2010 home opener on Friday, October 9th versus the Rockford IceHogs.

On Friday, November 6th, the Hamilton Bulldogs will take to the ice at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, home of their National Hockey League affiliate, the Canadiens, where they will host the Binghamton Senators.  The two teams will then travel to Scotiabank Place in Kanata, Ontario, home of Binghamton’s NHL affiliate, the Ottawa Senators, for a rematch on Sunday, November 8th.  The ‘Dogs will return to the home of the Habs on Sunday, February 21st, when they will host the Adirondack Phantoms.  These contests mark the third and fourth times in franchise history that Hamilton will have played a regular season home game in their NHL affiliate’s arena.  The Bulldogs played host to the Syracuse Crunch on Sunday, March 18th, 2007 and to the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, November 30, 2008 (both games were played at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec).

During the 2009-2010 regular season, the ‘Dogs will play 17 different opponents.  Of the 80 games on Hamilton’s regular season schedule, 52 are against North Division rivals.  The Bulldogs will take on the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) twelve times, the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers) 10 times, their new North Division foe, the Abbotsford Heat (AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames), eight times, the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) and Manitoba Moose (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) eight times each and the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings) six times.

Hamilton will also combat all seven teams in the Western Conference’s West Division.  The Bulldogs will oppose the Chicago Wolves (AHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers) and the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators) four times each and the Houston Aeros (AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild), Peoria Rivermen (AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues), San Antonio Rampage (AHL affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes) and the expansion Texas Stars (AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars) two times a piece.

The ‘Dogs will also clash with four Eastern Conference squads.  Hamilton will play three of the eight teams in the East Division.  The Bulldogs will face the relocated Adirondack Phantoms (AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers) four times and the Binghamton Senators (AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators) two times.  The ‘Dogs will also contest their former North Division rival, the Syracuse Crunch (AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets), two times.  In addition, Hamilton will see one of the seven teams in the Atlantic Division.  The Bulldogs will battle the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers) two times.

 

Of the club’s 40 home games, 38 will be held at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario and two will take place at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.  23 of the Bulldogs’ home games will take place on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) with the remaining 17 games scheduled on weeknights (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).  The Bulldogs will play eight home games on Wednesdays, eight on Fridays, eight on Saturdays, seven on Sundays, six on Tuesdays, two on Mondays and one on a Thursday.  All Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday home games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., all Saturday home games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and all Sunday home games (with the exception of February 21st – 1:00 p.m. and February 28th – 6:00 p.m.) are scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Hamilton’s longest home stand during the 2009-2010 season will begin on Sunday, February 21st* and end on Saturday, March 13th with the Bulldogs playing 10 games in 21 days (* - at Bell Centre – Montreal, Quebec).  The team’s longest road trip will commence on Tuesday, January 26th and conclude on Monday, February 1st with the ‘Dogs playing four games in seven days.

Fans can listen to every ‘Dogs pre-season, regular season and post-season game in 2009-2010 on the flagship station of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Network, Talk 820.  Fans can also listen to or watch every game online on www.hamiltonbulldogs.com.  All regular season radio and online broadcasts will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the game’s scheduled start time.  Ellery Award-winning broadcaster Derek Wills will call the play-by-play of all 80 regular season games, while Al Craig will provide the colour commentary for all home games and select road games.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League continues to serve as the top development league for the players, coaches, managers, executives and broadcasters of all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 84 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the eighth year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2008-2009.
