‘DOGS CHASING CLUB RECORDS

Bulldogs looking to earn most points in a regular season in today’s game

April 04, 2010

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs will be looking to set a franchise record for most points in a single season when they host the Manitoba Moose for a 4:00 p.m. game today at Copps Coliseum. Last night, the 'Dogs earned their 110th point of the season which tied the franchise record set by the 2002-2003 team.

This season, the Bulldogs set a club record for most wins in a regular season when the 'Dogs earned their 50th win of the year this past Thursday. The Bulldogs have also set a new franchise record for most wins on the road in the regular season with 26 and with two road games remaining in the season, the team could tie the AHL record for most road wins in the regular season. Hamilton could also tie the franchise record for wins at home this season as they currently have 24 with two games remaining at Copps Coliseum. The team also set the record for point streak to start a season with an 11-game point streak at the start of 2009-2010 and also tied the club mark for winning streak when they held a nine-game winning streak from February 19th - March 9th.

Earlier this season, Cedrick Desjardins set a new franchise record for longest shutout streak by a goaltender when he did not allow a goal in 212 minutes and 37 seconds of play. The club also set a franchise record for team shutout streak as the 'Dogs were not scored on for 207 minutes and 21 seconds. The Bulldogs have posted 12 shutouts this year, tying the franchise mark set by the 2002-2003 team while Desjardins has earned six shutouts which ties Jaroslav Halak for most shutouts in one season by a Bulldogs goaltender.

Hamilton defencemen P.K. Subban and Andre Benoit have also set new franchise records for 'Dogs defencemen. This season, Benoit has become the all-time leader in points by a Bulldogs defenceman with 93, goals by a 'Dogs defenceman with 23 and his 70 assists are one shy of tying the record for all-time assists by a Bulldogs defenceman. Subban's 18 goals, 53 points and 11 power-play goals are new franchise records for a Bulldogs defenceman in a single season. Subban also only needs one assist to break the record for most assists by a Hamilton defenceman while his plus/minus rating of plus-44 is currently 10 higher than the franchise record of plus-34.

Forwards David Desharnais and Brock Trotter are in a race to set a new franchise mark for most points in a season which was set by Jason Chimera when he posted 77 points in 2001-2002. Desharnais currently has 26 goals and 49 assists for 75 points while Trotter has 35 goals and 39 assists. Desharnais' 49 assists are only three shy of tying the franchise record for most assists in a season while Trotter's 35 goals are only four short of the record of 39 in a single season.

Below is a list of all the franchise records that the Bulldogs have broken or tied or could break or tie by the end of the regular season:

Bold is records that have been broken. Italicized is records that have been tied.
