HAMILTON, ON - Hamilton Bulldogs goaltender Robert Mayer made 35 saves and Andreas Engqvist extended his career-long point streak to 8 games, scoring two goals to lead the franchise to its 599th win as the ‘Dogs defeated the Oklahoma City Barons 3-1.
Hamilton took a 1-0 lead just 1:01 into the game when Alexander Avtsin's wraparound effort led to Engqvist's first goal of the game. Mayer faced only 3 shots in the first period, while the Bulldogs tested Oklahoma City netminder David LeNeveu 11 times.
With 1:37 left in the second period, Engqvist scored his team-leading twelfth goal, beating LeNeveu on the far side on the power play. The ‘Dogs would go into the third period with a 2-0 lead, also leading 22-20 in shots.
Oklahoma City would make it 2-1 with less than 3 minutes left in the game. Magnus Paajarvi's point shot was deflected in front of Mayer's net by Lennart Petrell, who scored his first of the year. Gabriel Dumont added the empty net goal for the Bulldogs for a final score of 3-1. Oklahoma City tallied a total of 36 shots, while Hamilton registered 29 shots.
