ABBOTSFORD, BC - The Hamilton Bulldogs stretched their season-long point-streak to five games when Andreas Engqvist scored in overtime to lead the ‘Dogs to a 3-2 victory over the Abbotsford Heat.
Abbotsford gave Hamilton its first chance of the game when Chris Breen took an interference penalty less than a minute into the game. The Bulldogs were quick to capitalize, with Engqvist scoring his fifth of the season to give the ‘Dogs a 1-0 lead on the power play. Then, Jordan Henry triggered Abbotsford's Teddy Bear toss when he pushed the puck past Hamilton goaltender Nathan Lawson. Henry's first goal of the season was scored at 10:13 into the first period.
The nondescript second period ended with a penalty call against Abbotsford, triggering a Hamilton power play to start the third. In a repeat of Friday's game against the Heat, the ‘Dogs scored on that man-advantage, this time only 28 seconds into the period. Aaron Palushaj fired a rocket from the face-off circle, roofing the puck past Heat goaltender Danny Taylor to end a 3-game pointless streak. But the Heat would quickly tie up the game on a 5-on-4 when captain Quentin Lang pushed Ben Walter's pass past Lawson at 3:10 into the third stanza.
Overtime began with Hamilton playing 4-on-3 as the Heat took a penalty with 1:19 left in the third frame. Engqvist's second goal of the game at 1:08 in OT would seal the deal for the ‘Dogs.
