MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that five players have been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Of the five players, three played for Hamilton during the 2008-2009 season. Returning to the 'Dogs are forward Ben Maxwell and defencemen Mathieu Carle and Yannick Weber. Goaltender Curtis Sanford (Vancouver Canucks - NHL / Manitoba Moose - AHL) and forward Tom Pyatt (Hartford Wolf Pack - AHL) will be joining the Bulldogs for the first time.
Maxwell co-led (alongside David Desharnais) all 'Dogs rookies in scoring last season with 58 points (22 goals, 36 assists) while Weber with 44 points (16 goals, 28 assists) and Carle with 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) finished first and second, respectfully, in scoring amongst Bulldogs defencemen in 2008-2009. Sanford is a veteran of 108 NHL games with a record of 37-37-11, a 2.76 goals-against-average and a .901 save percentage and 172 AHL games with a record of 77-65-3, a 2.38 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage. Pyatt is a two-time World Junior gold medalist having won the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championship with the Canadian team. Pyatt is currently injured while the other four players are scheduled to be available for tomorrow's final pre-season game.
The Bulldogs finish their pre-season on Wednesday, September 30th when they face the Toronto Marlies at General Motors Centre at 7:00 p.m. Fans can listen to every 'Dogs game on the flagship station of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Network, TALK 820.
