HAMILTON BULLDOGS WEEKLY RELEASE

BULLDOGS CONTINUE FIRST ROUND SERIES WITH MOOSE THIS WEEK!

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will continue their North Division Semi-Final series with the Manitoba Moose (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) this week after taking a 2-1 series lead. The 'Dogs will battle the Moose for two more games in Winnipeg with Game 4 on Wednesday, April 21st at 8:30 p.m. EST and Game 5 on Friday, April 23rd at 8:30 p.m. EST. If necessary, the teams will return to Copps Coliseum for Game 6 on Sunday, April 25th at 7:00 p.m.

The following are the dates, along with locations, and times for the remainder of the first-round playoff series between the Bulldogs and Moose (all times eastern):

            Game #4 - Wednesday, April 21st - 8:30 PM - Hamilton at Manitoba (MTS Centre)
            Game #5 - Friday, April 23rd - 8:30 PM - Hamilton at Manitoba (MTS Centre)
            *Game #6 - Sunday, April 25th - 7:00 PM - Manitoba at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum)

Last week, the Bulldogs began the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs by taking a 2-1 North Division Semi-Final series lead over Manitoba. The Bulldogs opened the series with a 2-0 shutout win over the Moose on Thursday, April 15th at Copps Coliseum before exploding with eight goals in an 8-2 win in Game 2 on Saturday, April 17th at Copps Coliseum. The 'Dogs dropped their first game of the series on Monday, April 19th, losing 7-2 to the Moose at MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

BULLDOGS NOTES:

  • The Bulldogs eight goals scored in Game 2 ties the franchise record for most goals scored in a post-season game. The last time the club scored eight goals in a playoff game was in the 2003 Calder Cup playoffs when they earned an 8-3 win over the Binghamton Senators.  
  • Hamilton set a new franchise record for largest margin of victory in a playoff game in Game 2 as they won by six goals, passing the previous record of five that was set in the 2003 Calder Cup playoffs.
  • The seven goals allowed in Monday's 7-2 loss were the most the 'Dogs have suffered in a playoff game in franchise history. It was also the largest margin of defeat in a post-season game in franchise history for Hamilton.
  • D P.K. Subban (1-3-4) and D Andre Benoit (0-4-4) lead the 'Dogs in post-season scoring with four points each.
  • Guy Boucher was named as the winner of the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL's Outstanding Coach for the 2009-2010 season. Boucher led the 'Dogs to a record of 52-17-3-8 this season.
  • Cedrick Desjardins and Curtis Sanford won the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award which is presented to the goaltenders on the team which allows the fewest goals in the regular season.
  • Bulldogs D P.K. Subban was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and was named an AHL First-Team All-Star while G Cedrick Desjardins was named an AHL Second-Team All-Star.
  • The Bulldogs broke 31 franchise records during the regular season.  


UPCOMING GAMES:  

NORTH DIVISION SEMI-FINALS - HAMILTON BULLDOGS (1) VS. MANITOBA MOOSE (4)

  • This is the third Calder Cup playoff meeting between the 'Dogs and Moose but the first time the clubs have met in the first round. The Bulldogs defeated the Moose in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final in 2003 and in the North Division Final in 2007
  • The 'Dogs had a 4-3-1-0 record against Manitoba this season, outscoring the Moose 29-19 in those games
  • Manitoba finished in 4th position in the North Division standings with a 40-33-5-2 record and 87 points
  • The Bulldogs currently own a 45-24-1-5-1 all-time regular season record against Manitoba
  • C Marco Jordan Schroeder (3-1-4) and RW Guillaume Desbiens (1-3-4) are currently atop the Moose's post-season scoring chart with four points each.
  • There are four Ontario natives currently listed on the Manitoba roster: C Marco Rosa (Scarborough), D Matt Clark (Campbellville), D Jordan Hill (Sarnia) and Hamilton native G Daren Machesney

 

ALUMNI WATCH:

There were more than 40 former Bulldogs on 2009-2010 National Hockey League rosters this past year. Over 60 percent of all former 'Dogs have played in at least one NHL game. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this past week:

  • Montreal forward Andre Kostitsyn recorded an assist in a 3-2 overtime win over Washington (Apr. 15), Before recording a hat-trick and adding an assist for a four-point night in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Capitals in Game 2 (Apr. 17)
  • Montreal forward Tomas Plekanec scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Game 1 to win 3-2 over Washington (Apr. 15). The centre then scored a goal and added an assist in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Capitals (Apr. 17) before scoring his third straight goal in as many games in a 5-1 loss to Washington (Apr. 19)  
  • Buffalo forward Raffi Torres recorded an assist in a 5-3 loss to Boston (Apr. 17) before notching an assist in a 2-1 loss to the Bruins (Apr. 19)
  • Boston forward Michael Ryder potted two goals in a 5-3 Game 2 win over Boston (Apr. 17)
  • Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll scored a goal in a Game 1 3-2 overtime loss to Vancouver (Apr. 15)

Fans can listen to every 'Dogs playoff game during the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs on the flagship station of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Network, 'TALK 820'. All post-season radio and online broadcasts will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to each scheduled game-time. Fans can also watch the remaining first round games live on Cable 14. Games 4 and 5 on Cable 14 will use a simulcast with Play-By-Play Announcer Derek Wills and Colour Commentator Al Craig providing the call. Games 4 and 5 on Cable 14 will also feature a variety of in-studio panelists providing analysis including Todd Crocker, Troy Islakar, Norm Miller, Scott Radley and Mike Stojakovic.
