BULLDOGS ANNOUNCE 2012-2013 INDIVIDUAL AWARD WINNERS

HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today the winners of the hockey club’s 2012-2013 individual player awards.  The following is a list of the worthy recipients:

The Hamilton Spectator Most Valuable Player Award:

*As voted by the Hamilton Bulldogs players
Winner: #8 Nathan Beaulieu

Nathan Beaulieu earned four awards, winning ‘The Hamilton Spectator Most Valuable Player Award’ as voted by his teammates, co-winning ‘The Hamilton Bulldogs Leading Scorer Award’ which is given to the Bulldog who leads the team in scoring at the end of the regular season,  co-winning ‘The Tim Hortons Top Defenceman Award’ as voted by local media and ‘The Swiss Chalet Top Rookie Award’ as selected by the Hamilton Bulldogs Broadcast Team.  The native of Strathroy, Ontario tied for the team lead with 31 points (7 goals, 24 assists) while leading the team in assists and amassed 63 penalty minutes in 67 games.  Beaulieu was recalled for the first time on March 29th and played six games for the Canadiens posting two assists and a +5 rating.  

Jarred Tinordi was the co-winner of ‘The Tim Hortons Top Defenceman Award’ as voted by local media. The 6’6”, 218-pound defenceman registered 13 points (2 goals, 11 assists) and 71 penalty minutes in 67 games.  The native of Burnsville, Minnesota was recalled by the Canadiens for the first time on March 14th and posted one assist and two penalty minutes in six games.

Kyle Hagel was the winner of the ‘The H.E.C.F.I. Community Leadership Award’ for his work within the Hamilton Community as voted by the Hamilton Bulldogs front office staff.   Hagel, a Hamilton native, created a “Stick to Reading” program for two schools in his hometown.  Hagel, along with other Bulldogs’ players, made numerous visits to Hess Street School and St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic School to promote literacy and encourage the elementary school students to read.  In addition, Hagel created a contest to reward the students in each class who read the most books within a six-week time frame with prizes including the opportunity to play in a ball hockey game with the team, a chance to tour the team’s dressing room, meet-and-greets with Hamilton players and free tickets to Bulldogs games.  Hagel also participated in many team events throughout the season such as a team visit to
8 Wing/CFB Trenton which included a community skate at RCAF Flyers Arena, the McMaster Children’s Hospital visit, several community practices and skates with minor hockey teams in the area and the Bowling with the ‘Dogs event

Gabriel Dumont was given ‘The Bill Sturrup Trophy’ which is voted on by The Growl – the Hamilton Bulldogs’ Booster Club and was also the co-winner of ‘The Hamilton Bulldogs Leading Scorer Award’ which is given to the Bulldog who leads the team in scoring at the end of the regular season.  The 5’10”, 186-pound forward co-led the Bulldogs in points with 31 (16 goals, 15 assists) and 83 penalty minutes and also led the team in goals in 55 games.  The native of Ville Degelis, Quebec has also played 10 games with the Canadiens recording three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and 13 penalty minutes.

Robert Mayer was the winner of ‘The Molson Cup Award’ which is given to the three stars leader as voted by the attending media at each game throughout the season.  The native of Havirov, Czech Republic finished the season with a 16-17-3 record with a 2.93 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.  

Mike Blunden, Louis Leblanc and Aaron Palushaj were the co-winners of the ‘The Dan Lawrie Insurance Premium Player of the Year Award’ as voted by the local media at each home game and the Hamilton Bulldogs Radio Broadcast Team after each road game throughout the season for the hardest working Bulldogs player.  Blunden tallied 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) and 76 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Bulldogs.  The 6’4”, 214-pound forward has also played five games with the Canadiens.  Leblanc finished the season with 18 points (10 goals, 8 assists) and 53 penalty minutes in 62 games.  Palushaj notched 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) and 18 penalty minutes in 21 games with the Bulldogs before being claimed off waivers by the Colorado Avalanche.
