HAMILTON, ONTARIO – Two Syracuse Crunch goals in a 1:10 span in the second period put the Hamilton Bulldogs behind for good as the hometown ‘Dogs (33-35-1-7) dropped their final game of the 2013-2014 season 3-1 to the Crunch (31-32-4-9) at FirstOntario Centre on Saturday evening.

Bulldogs defenceman Nathan Beaulieu opened the scoring at 8:14 of the first period when he tipped home a shot by forward Mike Blunden on the power play for his seventh goal of the season. Goaltender Dustin Tokarski had a second assist on the play.

The Crunch responded with two quick goals late in the second period to gain a 2-1 lead heading into the third. First, Syracuse forward Evan Rankin’s shot went off a Bulldog’s skate and past Tokarski to tie the game 1-1 at 15:07 of the middle frame, with forward Vladislav Namestnikov drawing the only assist. Then just over a minute later, Crunch defenceman Luke Witkowski gave his team the lead, assisted by forward Philippe Paradis and goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

Hamilton outshot Syracuse 12-6 in the final period, but an unassisted goal by Crunch forward Jonathan Marchessault provided the insurance marker that ultimately sunk the ‘Dogs, 3-1.

Tokarski made 23 saves on 26 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Desjardins stopped 22 of 23 shots for the Crunch in the win.

Hamilton went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Syracuse went 0-for-3.
