The Bulldogs opened the scoring on a goal by Blake Geoffrion at 17:09 of the first period.  Quailer dished the puck to Geoffrion who made a backhand-to-forehand move and put the puck through the pads of Grand Rapids Griffins starting goaltender Tom McCollum.  Quailer and Gallagher earned their first professional points with assists on the play.  The ‘Dogs doubled their lead at 19:53 of the opening stanza on a goal by Aaron Palushaj.  Brendon Nash sent the puck on net which was tipped off Bournival and then off Palushaj in the net past McCollum.  Bournival recorded his first professional point with an assist on the play.  Hamilton led Grand Rapids 11-7 in shots at the end of 20 minutes.

The Griffins cut the lead in half on a shorthanded tally by Trevor Parkes at 0:46 of the second stanza. Landon Ferraro slid a pass to Parkes who snapped a shot from the slot over the right shoulder of Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Robert Mayer.  Grand Rapids tied the score at 5:24 of the middle frame on a goal by Francis Pare.  Brendan Smith sent a shot on net that was bouncing in front of Mayer and then the puck tipped off Pare and in the back of the net.  After 40 minutes, the Bulldogs led the Griffins 24-11 in shots.

Going into overtime, the Bulldogs still held the lead in shots 32-16.

After a scoreless overtime period, the two teams went to a shootout where Bournival scored the only goal giving the Hamilton Bulldogs a 4-3 victory for their first win of the 2012-2013 season.  The ‘Dogs outshot the Griffins 37-20 to finish the game.
