Hamilton, Ontario – The Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-1 at Copps Coliseum on Sunday evening.  Bill Thomas and Mark Olver each had a goal and an assist while Sami Aittokallio stopped 42 of 43 shots.

The Monsters opened the scoring at 5:22 of the opening frame on a goal by David van der Gulik.  After receiving the puck from Thomas at the bottom of the right circle, van der Gulik skated towards the net and shot the puck low along the ice past Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.  The Monsters doubled their lead at 14:24 of the first period on a goal by Thomas.  Sean Sullivan threw a pass to Thomas who went in on a breakaway and slid the puck low behind Desjardins.

Lake Erie made it 3-0 at 3:40 of the second stanza on a tally by Patrick Bordeleau.  Bordeleau was streaking down the left wing and shot the puck low from the circle past Desjardins’ left pad and into the back of the net.  The Monsters added a fourth tally at 10:28 of the second frame on a marker by Mark Olver.  Olver flew down the left wing and wired a shot over the left shoulder of Desjardins.  After the fourth goal, Robert Mayer relieved Desjardins in net.

The Bulldogs got on the board at 17:57 of the second period on a goal by Aaron Palushaj.  Gabriel Dumont picked up the puck in the left corner and feathered a pass to Palushaj in the slot who tipped it past Lake Erie starting goaltender Sami Aittokallio.  Hamilton outshot Lake Erie 43-27.
