The Griffins got on the board first at 1:22 of the opening frame on a goal by Nyquist.  After receiving the puck in the slot from Nathan Paetsch, Nyquist wristed a low shot past Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.  Tatar scored another tally for Grand Rapids at 19:49 of the first period after coming out from behind the net and backhanding a shot over the shoulder of Desjardins.

The Bulldogs got on the board at 5:41 of the second stanza on a goal by Frederic St-Denis who took a shot from the point which found its way through the crowd and eluded Grand Rapids Griffins starting goaltender Petr Mrazek.
