MONTREAL, QUEBEC– Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of forward Michael Blunden to a one-year, two-way National Hockey League / American Hockey League contract extension for the 2013-2014 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Blunden, 26, competed in five games with the Montreal Canadiens last season, serving four penalty minutes and averaging eight minutes and 20 seconds time on ice. The Toronto, Ontario native also played in 54 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs, producing 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) and 76 penalty minutes. Following the 2012-2013 season, his second with the ‘Dogs, Blunden was named co-winner of the Dan Lawrie Insurance Premium Player of the Year Award.
The 6’4”, 214-pound forward has recorded eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) and 100 penalty minutes in 95 career regular season NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens. In 311 career regular season AHL games with the Norfolk Admirals, Rockford IceHogs, Syracuse Crunch, Springfield Falcons and Hamilton Bulldogs, Blunden has registered 150 points (65 goals, 85 assists) and 382 penalty minutes.
Blunden was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens from the Columbus Blue Jackets in return for forward Ryan Russell on July 7, 2011.
