ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – Hamilton Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont scored twice, including his team-leading 13th goal of the season, but his tallies represented all the offense the ‘Dogs (22-25-1-4) could muster against the Rochester Americans as they fell 3-2 to the Amerks (27-18-3-4) on Saturday evening at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.

Americans forward Frederick Roy got Rochester on the board first at 10:42 of the first period when he deflected a point shot from defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen past Bulldogs goaltender Robert Mayer. Forward Joel Armia drew a second assist on the sequence.

At 11:33 of the second period, Rochester forward Luke Adam redirected a shot by defenceman Brayden McNabb past Mayer to give the Amerks a 2-0 lead on the power play. Defenceman Chad Ruhwedel collected a second assist on the play.

With less than two minutes to play in the second period, Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont pounced on a loose puck to the left of the Americans’ crease and ripped a slap shot past goaltender Nathan Lieuwen to cut the deficit to 2-1. Dumont’s 12th goal of the season, scored on the power play, was assisted by defenceman Jarred Tinordi.

Mike Zigomanis extended the Americans’ lead to 3-1 at 5:53 of the third period, assisted by forward Kevin Porter and Ristolainen.

Dumont narrowed Rochester’s lead to 3-2 with his 13th goal of the season at 12:46 of the third period on the power play, assisted by forward Patrick Holland and defenceman Nathan Beaulieu.

The ‘Dogs pulled Mayer for an extra attacker late, but couldn’t sneak another puck past Lieuwen.

Mayer made 24 saves on 27 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Lieuwen made 27 saves on 29 shots for the Americans in the win.

Hamilton went 2-for-6 on the power play, while Rochester went 1-for-2.
