HAMILTON, ONTARIO – The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and the Bulldogs Foundation announced today the Foundation has donated $11,200 to JDRF Hamilton, raised through the Bulldogs’ DSkate Night – powered by Medtronic in support of JDRF – on Saturday, January 18th. The announcement was made during an on-ice cheque presentation before today’s game versus the Lake Erie Monsters at FirstOntario Centre.
“We’re thrilled to be able to contribute so significantly to such a worthy cause as JDRF and Type 1 Diabetes,” said Stephen Ostaszewicz, President of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and member of the Bulldogs Foundation Board of Directors. “With JDRF-themed jerseys and associated fundraisers, we hope we’ve created a greater awareness of the impact that T1D has on the families that are part of our community.”
On Saturday, January 18th, the Bulldogs wore special JDRF-themed jerseys as the club took on the Utica Comets. Those game-worn jerseys were then auctioned off, with goaltender Dustin Tokarski’s jersey garnering the highest bid at $575, followed closely by captain Martin St. Pierre’s jersey. Proceeds from that game’s 50/50 draw and Chuck-A-Puck contest were also included in the donation.
“JDRF Hamilton would like to thank the Bulldogs Foundation, Hamilton Bulldogs staff and players and all the families who attended our special game,” said Leslie Waychison, Manager of Fundraising and Development for the JDRF Hamilton Chapter. “With this donation, JDRF will be able to continue their invaluable research in therapy development that will improve the lives of people with T1D and will remain a driving force in the pursuit of a cure.”
The Bulldogs Foundation was established in 2007. The mission of the Foundation is to enrich the lives of children and youth in the Greater Hamilton Area through cash donations, gifts in kind and the assignment of tickets.
