GAME PREVIEW: BULLDOGS @ PENGUINS

WILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA – After going five years without playing one another, the Hamilton Bulldogs and Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins will go head-to-head for the second time within a week on Friday night, this time at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Tonight’s game will be the second and final meeting between the Bulldogs and Penguins in 2013-2014. Last Saturday, March 8th, the Penguins topped the Bulldogs 4-2 at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton. The ‘Dogs have an all-time record of 8-8-1-2 against the Pens.

Wilkes-Barre / Scranton has points in each of its past four games, with a 3-0-0-1 record over that span. In the Penguins’ last game on Sunday, they edged the Toronto Marlies 4-3 in a shootout. With points in seven of their past 10 games (4-3-1-2), the Pens sit tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, five points up on the ninth-place Hershey Bears.

Hamilton is coming off three straight losses in a home three-in-three last weekend. In their last game on Sunday, the Bulldogs fell to the North Division rival Lake Erie Monsters, 4-1, to drop into 15th place in the Western Conference standings. The ‘Dogs are 3-6-1-0 in their past 10 games and sit 11 points back of the eighth-place Milwaukee Admirals with 18 games left in the regular season.

- There are seven Ontario-born players on the Penguins’ roster: F Harry Zolnierczyk (Toronto), F Adam Payerl (Kitchener), F Tom Kostopoulos (Mississauga), F Denver Manderson (Fergus), D Reid McNeill (London), D Scott Harrington (Kingston) and D Nick D’Agostino (Bolton).
- Wilkes-Barre / Scranton captain and leading scorer Tom Kostopoulos spent two seasons with the Bulldogs’ National Hockey League affiliate, the Montreal Canadiens, from 2007-2009. In 145 games with the Habs, he recorded 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists) and 219 penalty minutes.
- Penguins forward Andrew Ebbett has five points (two goals, three assists) over a current three-game point streak.
- Hamilton forwards Gabriel Dumont and Martin St. Pierre are tied for the team lead in power play goals with six apiece.
- Bulldogs defencemen Greg Pateryn and Morgan Ellis share the team lead in plus / minus at +7.
- The ‘Dogs are 25-9-1-4 when scoring two or more goals this season.
