HAMILTON, ONTARIO – The Hamilton Bulldogs (28-30-1-4) earned a 3-0 lead early in the second period and kept the Milwaukee Admirals (29-21-6-6) at bay the rest of the way en route to a 4-2 victory on Friday evening at FirstOntario Centre.
Just over five minutes into the first period, with the Bulldogs on the power play, Hamilton defenceman Nathan Beaulieu missed the net with a point shot, but the bounce off the boards landed on the stick of forward Michael Bournival, who made no mistake in burying the puck past Milwaukee goaltender Marek Mazanec for his first American Hockey League goal of the season.
Less than three minutes later, with the Bulldogs on the power play again, Hamilton defenceman Greg Pateryn fired a shot from just inside the blueline that fooled Mazanec to give the ‘Dogs a 2-0 lead. Forwards Martin St. Pierre and Gabriel Dumont had assists on Pateryn’s 11th goal of the campaign.
At 8:09 of the second period, Bournival notched his second of the night and the season on a penalty shot to give Hamilton a 3-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Milwaukee forward Michael Liambis got his team on the board with a wrist shot from the right hash marks to make it a 3-1 game. Forward Mathieu Tousignant and defenceman Charles-Olivier Roussel had assists on the play.
Bulldogs forward Nick Tarnasky regained Hamilton’s three-goal lead 1:44 later when he was parked in front, spun and fired a shot that Mazanec got a piece of, but just trickled through. Tarnasky’s 12 goal of the season was assisted by Pateryn and defenceman Joel Chouinard.
With a five-on-three advantage late in the third period, Milwaukee made things interesting with a power play goal from forward Taylor Beck, assisted by defenceman Bryan Rodney and forward Austin Watson, to push the score to 4-2. The ‘Dogs held the fort the rest of the way.
Dustin Tokarski made 28 saves on 30 shots for the Bulldogs in the win. Mazanec made 22 saves on 26 shots for the Admirals in the loss.
Hamilton went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Milwaukee went 1-for-6.
