CEDAR PARK, TEXAS – The Hamilton Bulldogs fell behind the Texas Stars 2-0 on the scoreboard and 20-3 on the shot clock in the first period and weren’t able to recover as the ‘Dogs (29-33-1-4) fell to the Stars (42-17-3-6) 6-1 on Saturday evening at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas.

Stars forward Curtis McKenzie started the scoring just over three minutes into the first period, with assists from forwards Derek Hulak and Travis Morin.

Texas went ahead 2-0 at 15:23 of the opening frame when defenceman Patrik Nemeth fired a one-timer past Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski. Forward Brandon Ranford and defenceman Jyrki Jokipakka had assists.

Stars forward Matej Stransky made it 3-0 on the power play at 2:07 of the second period, with assists from McKenzie and Morin.

Hamilton forward Christian Thomas got his team on the board with his 11th goal of the season at 13:09 of the middle frame to make it a 3-1 game, with assists from forwards Maxime Macenauer and Sven Andrighetto.

Texas defenceman Hubert Labrie restored the Stars’ three-goal lead, 4-1, just over three minutes later. Forwards Justin Dowling and Mike Hedden had assists on the play.

With the ‘Dogs on the power play and Tokarski pulled for an extra attacker in the final three minutes of the game, Ranford fired a clearing attempt the length of the ice and into the empty Hamilton net to make the score 5-1. Labrie had the only assist.

In the dying seconds, Hedden made it 6-1, with assists from forward Brett Ritchie and Nemeth.

Tokarski made 31 saves on 36 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 24 of 25 shots he faced for the Stars in the win.

Hamilton went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Texas went 1-for-3.
